Home to most of the exotic nations in the world, Asia has at times garnered a reputation for being a dangerous place to travel. A large portion of the questions we here at Travel receive is whether Asia is a safe destination travel solo. 1. Do your research
No travel destination is 100% safe, but there are certain destinations that see higher crime rates and/or has a bad reputation. We, therefore, recommend conducting some desk research on your destination prior to booking your tickets.
2. When in Rome, act like a Roman
Asia has one of the most friendly, hospitable population on the planet. It does, however, have those who are unscrupulous and looking to make a quick profit off unsuspecting tourists. We, therefore, recommend trying to blend in as much as possible and emulating the local females.
3. Arrive at new destinations in the day
Arriving at a new destination during the day will let you inspect the location and get accustomed to it prior to nightfall.
4. Stay in accommodation deemed safe
Safe accommodation is a must for any traveler and such information is easily available via the internet. We recommend looking at the reviews on the hostels you intend on staying in order to make sure it safe and has been trusted by many others before you.
5. Carry a personal safety alarm
A personal safety alarm such as a very loud whistle will give you a sense of safety and ward off any attacker due to its ability to draw attention.
6. Avoid displays of wealth
Asia for all its splendor is also home to one of the poorest regions on earth. Extravagant displays of wealth are, therefore, an oddity and might attract unwanted attention.
7. Let people know of your whereabouts
It’s always a good idea to keep those closest to you updated on your whereabouts with periodic check-ins. This will ensure safety and raise alarms in any untoward incident.
8. Be confident
Having an air of confidence during your travels will deter many who attempt to take advantage.
9. Be stingy with your trust
This goes without saying but you must always steer clear away from individuals or instances that seem too good to be true. They often are!
10. Trust your gut
However perfect everything is, while your gut tells you differently, we recommend heeding it. A minor inconvenience is not worth feeling uncomfortable or getting into an unpleasant situation.
